Pleased To Meet You....

I was asked to create a post that invites our readers to introduce themselves to one another. I am not sure of the protocol for such a thing....but here goes...

Tell us your first name, the grade you teach, (or the description of your role in the lives of Early Learners) where you work, and an interesting fact about yourself, or an interesting anecdote that you are comfortable sharing with us.
I know a few of you may be a tad hesitant to participate...don't be shy....speak up! We're a friendly bunch!
Keep in mind...we're all pleased to meet you!

Hi all!
Ok...about me...I am the supervisor at Illinois Park and relatively new to the world of administration and kindergarten (all my background has been in preschool). I work with an awesome staff who helped me learn last year so I hope to contribute even more this year.

My passions are vocabulary development (at work) and gardening (at home). I like to call myself a runner, but I am more of a slow jogger!

Can't wait to roll out the electronic version of the kindergarten curriculum...and develop this sharing ground of a blog for all of us to connect.

Julie,
Thanks for being the first to break the ice here. See, it's really not too bad. This is actually your second post, so you can be the resident expert at Illinois Park. ;-)
Thanks for sharing!

Hello Everyone!

I am a Kindergarten teacher at Spring Trail. I have taught 1st grade before and I am very excited to learn about the joys of teaching Kindergarten. One of my favorite things about teaching is the connection I get with my students. They teach me new things everyday!!! I enjoy scrapbooking and taking pictures. I also love reading children's books. Let me know if you know of any great books that Kindergarteners love!

Hi! I am Kate and I teach Kindergarten at Hilltop elementary in U46. I have 2 sweet little girls and they are what I am all about on the homefront. I am absolutely IN LOVE with Disney World! I also love to scrapbook when I have time.
On the work side of things I love going back to school even though I may complain that the summer went too fast, I am always amazed at how excited I am to see the new children and try new things. Kindergarten is never dull- that is why I love it. I also love Dr. Jean and the musical, kinesthetic and learning activities. They are the favorite part of my day with the kids- and they love it too. The more fun learning is the more we have them hooked!
I hope that this blog becomes a place for sharing and new ideas and tricks!
Thanks CIndy for setting this blog up!

Hi!
I am a second grade teacher at Wayne. I am very excited for the school year to start. I loved taking classes this summer and getting REorganized (again) at school and at home. A recent website that has offered some great teaching tips is www.choiceliteracy.com. Would love if anyone has favorites they can share.

Kate,
Thanks for sharing the link to the "Small Voices" podcasts in my delicious account. It prompted me to create a separate set of links on this page. Keep the links coming!

Hello!
I have been teaching for a few years but am starting my first year in a bilingual classroom. Does anyone have good resources for acquiring some good Spanish read-alouds?
Thanks for your help!

Hi Cindy-
I have been in u-46 for 12 years and now will be the instructional coach at Heritage Elementary. Besides education, my new found passion is website building. Most of my summer has been devoted to refining my website, it is: www.craftkitsforkids.com I have been adding lots of resources, some my own and some borrowed! :) I am also currently adding a teachers section to my site and am always looking for ideas to put on my site for others to enjoy and benefit from..so if anyone has anything they would like to add..just e-mail me! Have a great school year! Michelle Sheppard

Hi Everyone! I'm Erin and I teach preschool at Independence. I love reading, photography, scrapbooking, and blogging! I have a personal blog, but since I use my blog as a reflective tool I keep it anonymous to protect the privacy of families I work with.

I am really excited about this blog and can't wait to see the many fun ways we can use it. Thanks Cindy for setting this up? Is there any way that other teachers can post as well?

Jan,
Keep an eye out for the posting of the District's course offerings for technology. There should be some classes there that you will find useful. Also, check out some of the tutorials at my PBWiki site:
http://cindylb.pbwiki.com/ Be sure to click on the sidebar to find the tutorials.
I also have links at
http://earlylearners.googlepages.com/
I'll put links to both on the sidebar here.

Erin,
Since you're already into blogging, why not consider setting up a classroom blog? I bet your students would love it.
Thanks for posting...

Wow! Great to see the comments coming. Cindy, that was the big question at our preschool technology breakout: How can teachers post a strand to discuss?

Julie,
I am sending you details about adding authors to the blog. I am so glad others are interested in posting. I had someone ask "if other grade levels had something like this?". I told her I didn't think so, that we are the FIRST!
Isn't that GRAND?? ;-)
Check your email for more info.

Hi again Cindy-

Sorry for the delay in responding to your blog. I was updating the site for a day and I am betting that was the day you tried to access it. It is: www.craftkitsforkids.com, it is up and running! Thanks again for this great tool to communicate!
